Questions and answers
What counts as a document?
A document evidences a financial event — an invoice or a receipt, for instance. One document covers up to three accounting entries; if it holds more, it counts proportionally. Invoices posted automatically are not counted. We go through the volume with you and show what the fixed-price quote covers.
What affects the fixed price?
The number of documents, whether you have payroll and how involved it is — a company car, occupational pension and sick pay all make a payroll run more work. Then which accounting system you use, whether you are VAT registered, and how much you do yourself. If you are newly established, we quote on the planned activity. If the scope changes, we agree any adjustment with you in advance.
What can I do to keep the price down?
Invoice yourself in a system you are comfortable with, and send receipts as they happen rather than in batches at period end — a steady flow is cheaper to handle than a pile in January. Keep personal and company money entirely separate, and choose a system that matches your size. An over-specified system costs more in both licence and time.
What should I compare between two quotes?
Not just the monthly figure. Check whether the year-end close, payroll, the system subscription and advice are included or extra, what the fixed price assumes, what the hourly rate is for work outside the agreement, and how the price is adjusted if the business changes. A quote with a low monthly figure can cost more in total than one with a higher figure.
How do I know the firm is approved?
Accounting for others as a business must be carried out through an approved accounting firm, and every engagement must have a state-authorised accountant responsible for it. You can check the approval yourself in Finanstilsynet's register of firms. Note too that Norwegian law does not require every accounting firm to carry professional indemnity insurance — if that matters to you, ask about it.
Can I do part of the accounting myself?
Yes. Many clients invoice themselves and send receipts as they go, and leave reconciliation, VAT and the year-end close to us. That can bring the cost down. We agree a split that suits you and the business.
