Payroll and the monthly employer's report
Payroll is one of the areas where small errors have large consequences. A wrong a-melding creates discrepancies at the Tax Administration, NAV and Statistics Norway. Greenleaf handles the whole payroll process for limited companies and larger sole proprietorships – from time registration through payslips, the a-melding, tax withholding and employer's national insurance contributions.
What is the a-melding?
The a-melding is the monthly report to the Tax Administration, NAV and Statistics Norway covering every salary payment, hiring, termination and reimbursement. It is filed by the 5th of the following month and has to match the payroll run to the last krone. Errors here tend to produce correction demands, penalties or interest.
What the payroll service covers
Ongoing payroll runs, usually monthly. Payslips sent automatically to employees. Tax withholding and employer's contributions. The a-melding. Sick pay and NAV reimbursements. Expense claims and travel expenses. Occupational pension. Holiday and holiday pay. And the final settlement when someone leaves.
Deadlines you need to know
The a-melding is due by the 5th of the month after the reporting month. Where the 5th falls on a weekend or a public holiday, the deadline moves to the next working day. From 1 January 2026 the separate tax withholding account was abolished: withheld tax is now paid directly to the Tax Administration by the first working day after the salary is paid. Several payroll runs in the same month therefore create several due dates. Employer's national insurance contributions are still paid every two months, falling due 15 January, March, May, July, September and November. We handle all of these for clients on an ongoing payroll agreement.
Price for payroll
Payroll is billed at 900 NOK per hour and covers the payroll run, the a-melding and payslips. Payroll is not included in the fixed monthly price for ongoing bookkeeping. We give a firm price based on the number of employees and the scope. See Pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Can you run payroll for a single employee?
Yes. We run payroll for companies with anything from one employee upwards. It is often the smallest companies where the risk of an a-melding error is highest, because the routine is not established.
What about company cars, phones and other benefits in kind?
We handle the taxable benefit from a company car, electronic communication, parking, gym memberships and other benefits in kind, with the correct withholding and reporting.
Do you handle sick pay and reimbursements?
Yes. We follow up reimbursements from NAV, claim sick pay refunds, track the employer's period and make sure it reconciles in the accounts.
Where do payslips go?
The payslip normally goes straight to the employee, by email or through the payroll system's own app or portal, where they can also see earlier payslips and annual summaries. Where this is part of the payroll engagement, it needs no manual handling from you as the employer.
Take payroll off your plate
