Accountant for small businesses
A small business needs something different from what a large group needs. You need a partner who is quick to reach, keeps the cost down, gives you a clear picture and helps you avoid the usual traps. Greenleaf is an approved accounting firm, a member of Regnskap Norge, and works with small businesses across Norway – from sole proprietorships with one owner to limited companies with a handful of employees.
What does a small business get from us?
A named contact, an accounting system that suits your size, ongoing bookkeeping, the VAT return if you are VAT registered, payroll for you and any employees, and a tidy year-end close. Facing a specific decision – buying a company car, hiring your first employee, adjusting how you take money out – you get a short conversation about it, not an invoice for advice.
Price for small businesses
Ongoing bookkeeping starts at 1 100 NOK per month for simple businesses, and the price follows the number of documents. Year-end close, payroll and system subscriptions are priced separately. You get a firm quote after a free review – no hidden costs. The full price list is on Pricing.
What can you do yourself?
Many small businesses prefer to handle invoicing, receipts and bank transactions themselves in a system they find easy, and leave reconciliation, VAT, payroll and the year-end close to us. That is often the most cost-effective split. We will tell you plainly what you are better off keeping and what is worth handing over.
The mistakes we see most
The same ones keep coming back: mixing personal and business money, treating entertainment as deductible, missing the VAT threshold, underestimating employer's national insurance contributions, or taking nothing as salary from your own limited company. We flag these early, so they do not turn into expensive surprises.
Frequently asked questions
What does an accountant cost for a small business?
Ongoing bookkeeping starts at 1 100 NOK per month for simple businesses, and the price follows the number of documents. The year-end close comes in addition, from 5 000 NOK for a sole proprietorship and 9 000 NOK for a limited company. See Pricing for the full picture.
Does a small business actually need an accountant?
There is no legal duty to use an external accountant. A sole proprietorship with very few documents can manage alone. But most save time and avoid expensive mistakes by using one – particularly on VAT, payroll and the year-end close. Every limited company is required to keep accounts and prepare annual accounts regardless of who does the work.
Which accounting system suits us best?
For very small businesses, a simple cloud system is enough. Limited companies with employees usually need something with proper payroll and project modules. We recommend based on your situation, and we can work in the system you already have. See Accounting systems.
Can we start with you even if the company is brand new?
Yes. We take newly registered sole proprietorships and limited companies, and help with the registrations, the choice of system, the VAT assessment and setting up payroll from day one.
